There’s something special about the combination of Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan. The Humsafar co-stars are making inroads into Bollywood, each a superlative actor in their own right – but they have a sparkling chemistry together. His smouldering looks, her elusive charm – it’s a match made in celluloid heaven.

Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan

Their latest project together is for Lux – always a brand that bags the hottest stars for its promos (think Sophia Loren, Zeenat Aman, Kareena Kapoor….only the creme de la creme).

On-screen chemistry is a funny thing – as delicate as a souffle and as unpredictable as summer rain. Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar? Totally smokin’ together. Katrina Kaif and Shahrukh Khan? Simply painful to watch. Fawad and Mahira go together like Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio, Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman or Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. Each of these couples are scintillating together and have acted in iconic romances that linger in the memory like the best fragrances. Every time we see Fawad and Mahira together it brings back subtle memories of Khirad and Ashar from Humsafar.

Their own working relationship has evolved. They’ve gone from barely talking when they were making Humsafar to being good friends now, each appreciative of the other’s work ethic and gently ribbing each other on their improvement since Humsafar days. They certainly seem to have had fun shooting the new Lux commercial.

In this BTS clip Fawad playfully accuses Mahira of hogging screen-time – though seeing Fawad instead of Mahira in that classic “bubbles in the bath shot” would certainly have been memorable to say the least. (see the Lux Pakistan Facebook page for more BTS footage and bloopers from the shoot)

Mahira is busy shooting Raees and Fawad has been linked with several Bollywood projects after his success in Kapoor and Sons. Until we see them together again in a film or serial, the Lux ad is a reminder of why we can’t wait to see them work together again.
