If you’ve been waiting to check out the new Chapter 2 by Khaadi store in Dolmen Mall Clifton, read on. The store launched on Thursday evening and looks set to be a roaring success. The store is markedly different from the main Khaadi store, using only traditional handloom-style fabrics in contemporary silhouettes. It’s bohemian outlook is reminiscent of designer Sonya Battla and has a cool vibe that should do well internationally as well as locally.

Khaadi launched Chapter 2 at the HUM Showcase and the fashion fraternity was wowed by by the fabric and silhouettes. Shamoon Sultan promised that the ramp show was a prelude to a new chapter for the popular brand Khaadi, taking it back to its handloom roots. He’s certainly done that.

Chapter 2 by Khaadi – what’s in store

Chapter 2 is a breath of fresh air for those who want relief from the deluge of lawn prints. There are hardly any prints at all – the clothes are mainly in solid colours, colour blocks or stripes or feature motifs woven into the fabric. The clothes are stylish and affordable – with most tunics prices between Rs3,500 and Rs5,500.

From white on white tunics to vibrant multi-coloured stripes and much in-between, there’s something for everyone. Many of the styles are not straight kurtas, with interesting silhouettes including wraps, hi-low tunics and drapey-cuts. There are many forgiving voluminous cuts that look very cool but may swamp those with a smaller frame.

The collection includes gorgeous dupattas and stole in many hues and plenty of trousers and shalwars in various hues and modern handloom stripes.

One thing that is missing is silk. Shamoon Sultan showed silks on the catwalk but for now the store sits firmly in realm of casual wear. It’s possible to dress up some of the outfits for semi-formal evening wear, particularly desirable in our tropical climate as the fabric is so breatheable, but Chapter 2 doesn’t offer anything particularly formal. Nevertheless the shop has plenty to offer to customers. The clothes are effortlessly chic and the fabric is just as lovely as the handloom Khaadi we originally fell in love with all those years ago.

Some Chapter 2 by Khaadi can be dressed up

Another thing that’s missing is loose fabric (but this was always going to be a pret store) and anything for men. This was one launch that saw fashion lovers actually buying in droves rather than posing and all the male bloggers and journalists bemoaning the fact that there was nothing available for men!

The shop also stocks accessories, notebooks and homewares – all with the same cool boho vibe. The Dolmen Mall Clifton store is the only Chapter 2 by Khaadi store at present though there are plans to open one in Lahore in due course.

Chapter 2 by Khaadi promises to be a welcome addition to Pakistan’s high street – and gives Pakistan’s fashion lovers a whole new way to make a fashion statement.
