AKS International Minorities Festival : Ladies Only
Aks festival will close in Karachi with “Ladies ONLY”, an event with a focus on the voices of women. This is not a separatist event, and all cis and trans* gender folks with feminist souls are welcomed. The event will host Karachi based artist collective “Ladies Only” to talk about their daring short films project and the idea behind this unique initiative. Jafar Panahi’s masterpiece “Offside” and the British documentay “Bacha Posh” will be screened; both films are of great significance to draw attention to previously unheard stories.
When: Sunday, 9th April
Timings: 5pm – 10 pm
AKS International Minorities Festival : German Documentary
Aks festival will screen “Because Of Who I Am” , a German documentary capturing the journey of two filmmakers from Berlin through a divided work. While half the world is leaping forward, and is even including rights relating to gender diversity and sexuality in their countries’ policies, many countries are still fighting whenever possible against the very existence of alternative gender and sexual minorities. The filmmakers present snapshots of queer realities through an artistic perspective, raising the question as to what extent art can be an advocate for change and, ultimately, freedom.
Local artists will be invited after the screening to talk about their artworks and how they contribute to advocacy of human rights, and promotion change and freedom in society.
When: Monday, 10th April 2017
Where: Goethe Institute, Karachi
Timings: 6 pm – 9pm
